How to Add Custom Products to a Quote in Quotes Guru (Admin & Customer)

If your store handles custom, made-to-order, or non-catalog items, the Add Custom Products feature in Quotes Guru is a game-changer. It allows both admins and customers to add products that aren’t listed in your Shopify catalog directly to a quote — complete with title, price, and quantity.

In this guide, you’ll learn how to enable this feature and how both admins and customers can use it.

Important Note: The customer-facing “Add Custom Products” feature is only available when using the Quote Basket Button — it does not work with the Quick Quote button. The admin can add custom products to any quote regardless of button type.

How to Enable the Feature (Admin Setting) #

Before customers can add custom products from the storefront, an admin must enable this option in the app settings.

1. Go to Quotes Guru: RFQ & Hide Prices in your Shopify admin
2. Click on General Settings in the left sidebar
3. Scroll down to the Quote Page Layout section
4. Find the “Add Custom Products to Quote” toggle
5. Select Yes to enable it
6. Click Save

Note: Selecting No will hide the custom product option from the quote basket on your storefront.

How a Customer Adds a Custom Product (Storefront) #

Once the feature is enabled, customers using the Quote Basket can add custom products directly from the storefront:

1. Browse the store and open the Quote Basket
2. Scroll down to find the “Add Custom Product” option
3. Enter the Product Name and desired Quantity
4. Click Add to include it in the quote basket
5. Continue adding more items or submit the quote

The custom product will appear in the quote basket alongside any catalog products the customer has added.

Note: This setting controls whether users can manually add custom items (not listed in your Shopify product catalog) to their quote request.

How an Admin Adds a Custom Product (Admin Panel) #

Admins can add custom products to any existing quote directly from the Quotes Guru admin panel:

1. Go to Quotes Guru: RFQ & Hide Prices → Quote Listing in your Shopify admin
2. Open the quote you want to edit
3. Scroll to the Products section
4. Click “Add/Edit Custom Products”
5. In the popup, fill in the custom product details:
   • Title — Name of the custom product
   • Price — Set the price for this item
   • Quantity — Enter the required quantity
   • Taxable — Check if tax applies
   • Shippable — Check if shipping applies
6. Click “Add” on the row to add it to the Custom Products list
7. Click the final “Add” button at the bottom to save it to the quote

Managing Custom Products After Adding #

Once a custom product is added to the quote, click the three-dot (⋯) Actions menu next to it to access additional options:

• Duplicate — Copy the product line and add it again to the quote
• Add Discount — Apply a specific discount to that individual product
• Edit Properties — Add or update custom specifications or notes
• Link to Store Product — Connect the custom product to an actual Shopify product in your catalog
• Delete — Remove the custom product from the quote

How to Automatically Enable Shipping and Taxes for New Quotes #

To save time, you can now set custom products to be shippable and taxable by default. This ensures that when a customer requests a quote from your storefront, the shipping and tax charges are automatically calculated and ready for the Shopify draft order.

How to Enable This Setting: #

• Navigate to General Settings in the Quotes Guru app.
• Scroll down to the Miscellaneous settings section.
• Under Additional Configurations, toggle the following options:
• By default, custom products in the quote should be taxable.
• By default, custom products in the quote should be shippable.
• Click Save.

Important Note for Admin Quotes:

Admin-Created Quotes: If you create a quote manually from the Quotes Guru Admin side, you will still need to manually check the Shippable and Taxable boxes for each custom product to ensure accuracy.

Storefront Quotes: Once enabled, all quotes created by customers on your website will automatically have these settings applied.
